Summer is prime time for most boaters, but too much heat can push your electronics to their limit.
Today’s marine electronics have bigger and brighter displays and tons of computing power. LCD displays produce lots of heat. Just put your hand next to that 42″ flat screen TV and see what I mean. Computers are big heat generators too. Those of you with laptops who have actually used them sitting on your lap can attest to that.
Try to minimize the amount of direct sunlight getting to your electronics, even when they’re turned off. There’s also nothing wrong with installing a small ventilation fan to help move some air around your equipment. Just remember that excessive heat can damage electronics, and a little prevention can go a long way to extending the lifetime of your marine electronics.
